Horizontal pipe filament winding machine is a specialized production system for manufacturing FRP (glassfiber reinforced plastic) pipes and tubes. The machine rotates a steel mandrel while a fiber delivery head winds resin-impregnated glass rovings in a precise helical pattern.

Machine Configuration

The winding machine consists of a headstock spindle, a tailstock support, a traveling fiber delivery carriage, and a resin bath. The mandrel is mounted horizontally between the headstock and tailstock. As the mandrel rotates, the carriage moves along the bed, laying down fiber at controlled helical angles.

Winding Process

Glass rovings are pulled through a resin bath, where they are impregnated with catalyzed polyester or vinyl ester resin. The wet rovings are then wound onto the rotating mandrel at programmed angles. Circumferential winding provides hoop strength, while helical winding provides axial strength. After the desired wall thickness is reached, the pipe is cured, the mandrel is extracted, and the finished FRP pipe is cut to length.
