FRP Wall Panel and Cladding Applications

FRP (glassfiber reinforced plastic) wall panels and cladding combine corrosion resistance, light weight, and fast installation. They are widely used for chemical plant buildings, wastewater treatment structures, indoor pools, plating shops, and food processing areas where moisture and chemicals limit the life of painted drywall or metal cladding. This article reviews the main applications and specifications.

Common Uses

  • Washdown areas in food and beverage plants: the smooth, non-porous surface withstands high-pressure cleaning and sanitizing chemicals.

  • Plating and pickling line enclosures: the panel resists acid mist and does not rust like galvanized steel.

  • Indoor swimming pools and spa rooms: FRP panels withstand continuous humidity and chlorine vapors.

  • Wastewater treatment plants and pump stations: corrosion-resistant walling for areas exposed to sewage gas and effluent splash.

Panel Types

Standard FRP wall panels are flat sheets 2 to 4 mm thick, 1 to 1.5 m wide, cut to length. Sandwich panels with polyurethane or foam core add insulation and acoustic value. For high-corrosion interiors, choose a resin-rich surface veil that can be wiped clean without leaving a texture that traps dirt.

Installation

Fix panels to a steel or aluminium sub-frame with stainless steel fasteners. Seal panel joints with a compatible adhesive or mastic. Use a cove trim at the wall-floor junction so that washdown water runs cleanly. Cut edges must be sealed with resin to prevent water wicking.

Maintenance

Clean panels with mild detergent and water. Avoid abrasive scouring pads, which dull the gel coat. Inspect joints annually and re-caulk where the seal shows cracks or shrinkage.

Conclusion

FRP wall panels are a durable, low-maintenance cladding choice for wet, corrosive, or hygienic environments. Correct resin selection, sealed edges, and proper joint detailing determine long-term performance.
